SMK Mantin bid farewell to its most senior Mathematics teacher Paul Chin Chew Kong last week.
About 1,600 students, teachers, staff, school’s alumni president Datuk Krisnan Raguan, Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) members and Chin’s family members were present at the farewell.
SMK Mantin principal Norfaimi Mohammad Nor, PTA chairman Abdul Gani Mohamad Daud and Chin made the speeches.
Norfaimi thanked Chin for his contributions and good service to the school.
In his speech, Chin said that SMK Mantin was like his second home. He thanked all the teachers and staff who had supported him in his challenging but rewarding career. He said he was privileged to be part of SMK Mantin.
Chin also sang a song “The Young Ones” after his speech and received thunderous applause.
The students put up interesting performances with groups singing including a solo artist.
There were also Chinese dances, Indian dances and a poetry recital.
After completing his training, Chin’s first posting as a teacher was in SM Undang Jelebu, Kuala Klawang.
He was subsequently posted to his alma mater, SMK Mantin.
Chin who has served 39 years in education, received an award for excellent service in 2004. He was a mathematics teacher in SMK Mantin.
His old friend Kon Chen Choong who is a retired senior assistant from the Bukit Jalil Sport School, who attended the farewell, described him as very jovial and friendly with a good relationship with everyone.
On his retirement, Chin said: “It is a mixed feeling.”
“I am happy to retire but at the same time, am sad to leave the school,” he said.
Chin is looking forward to pursuing his hobbies and interests including travelling as well as spending time with family and friends.
